PRESS RELEASE

From
Clyde Naval Heritage (HMS Ambuscade/PNS Tariq) SCIO
22nd August 2024
Subject: Red Sea Attacks
With the increasing regularity of attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean area, this has caused significant delay, with plans to return the former Royal Navy Frigate, HMS Ambuscade to the UK.
As the contractors that are to complete the lift operation are a US based group they are considered to be, at high risk of attack from Houthi missiles. Additionally, as the ship is a former UK Royal Navy vessel, we are advised that these details increase the likelihood of being targeted.
This situation will affect the levels of insurances and risk to the contractors and this organisations staff, and as such we will only proceed when the risk has been removed. The charity has received advice from the IMB (International Maritime Board) not to proceed due to the high risks in the region.
We have a duty of care to our contractors and staff of volunteers that will guide the next steps in this process.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Pakistan Government and the Pakistan Navy for their continuing support and to express our gratitude as they help preserve the condition of HMS Ambuscade in Karachi Naval Base.
It is acknowledged by the Royal Navy and Veterans and commercial partners who recognise the important contribution this ship will make as a public exhibit, in filling the current large gap in Royal Navy Heritage since 1945.
End.
